Roland
Rust Named Editor of Journal of
Marketing
Roland
T. Rust, chair of the marketing
department at the Robert H. Smith School
of Business, was recently named editor
of the prestigious Journal of
Marketing. This journal has been
ranked number one in two of the last
three surveys of major marketing
journals. It is the oldest and most
frequently cited journal in the
marketing field and enjoys unique impact
and visibility with the international
marketing community. The journal’s broad
audience ranges from academic members to
the business community in the marketing
field. Rust’s term will run from July 1,
2005 to June 30, 2008.
In his role as editor, Rust will
manage the journal's editorial content,
selecting and managing the members of
the journal's editorial review board,
and deciding which articles to publish.
Rust describes the editor selection
process as rigorous and emphasizes that
the selection committee sought a
candidate with a strong blend of
academic and field knowledge. Rust’s
complementary background in academia
coupled with his entrepreneurial and
consulting endeavors uniquely positioned
him for the editor role.
Offering congratulations “for this
signal honor and wonderful recognition,”
Smith School Associate Dean Arjang Assad
said, “[Rust’s] editorship will further
reinforce and enhance the visibility and
research momentum of the Smith School.”
Rust holds the David Bruce Smith
Chair in Marketing at the Smith School,
where he also directs the
Center
for Excellence in Service. His
lifetime achievement honors include the
American Marketing Association’s Gilbert
A. Churchill Award for contributions to

Award from the American Academy of
Advertising, the AMA’s Career
Contributions to the Services Discipline
Award, Fellow of the American
Statistical Association, and the Henry
