Smith presents Kermit the Frog with honorary MBA degree

It’s easy being green at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. At least for Kermit the Frog, who was presented with an honorary MBA degree at a special ceremony this spring.

Didn’t know a puppet frog could get an MBA from Smith? Where have you been?!

Read more about this and other exciting Smith news:

1. Smith presents Kermit the Frog with honorary MBA degree

On April 1, 2015, the Smith School presented one happy Muppet with a diploma for his honorary MBA. Yes, we are talking about the one and only Kermit the Frog. Kermit is no stranger to this campus and is seen from time to time sitting with buddy Jim Henson ’60 on Campus Drive. After 60 years of demonstrating some serious Maryland pride, it was about time this Terp received his honorary MBA. Unfortunately, Kermit’s acceptance speech was drowned out by Miss Piggy’s squeals of pride from the audience. Read the full story at: ter.ps/kermitMBA

2. Smith dean named spokesperson for Canadian coffee chain

Congratulations, Dean Triantis! Smith’s favorite Canadian was just selected as Tim Horton’s spokesman and model. Forget Rudy’s coffee – Alex will be drinking his favorite Canadian brew for life. Not a bad deal, eh?

3. Smith to sync elevators in Van Munching Hall

After years of fielding the question, “How hard can it be to sync two elevators?” the Smith School has decided to tackle making the main elevators in the building “talk” to one another. No more missing one elevator because you were standing on the wrong side of the hall. The speed, however, will remain unchanged. A topic of contention among Smith administrators, the slow elevators are here to stay for fear of losing the Guinness Record for World’s Slowest Elevators. Plus – they give students plenty of time to practice and perfect their elevator pitches.

4. Joyce Russell takes down Victor Mullins in underground faculty fight club

Smith’s Court Classic got faculty members jazzed about competing against one another in athletic endeavors. But Smith’s adrenaline junkies needed more and took students and staff out of the equation to start their latest heart-pounding contest: Faculty Fight Club. The first rule of Faculty Fight Club? You don’t talk about Faculty Fight Club. Read the full story at: ter.ps/fightclub

5. Smith Caribbean campus to open its doors in 2020

Smith has campuses across the region and across the globe. With satellite campuses in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Rockville and China, expansion to the Caribbean seemed like the next natural choice. Marylanders hate the lingering cold that plagues the supposedly southern state come February and March, so this tropical location is sure to be a huge draw for Smith students in every program. As an added incentive for freshmen coming to Smith in the year 2020, Smith is offering free Winter Break trips – and sunscreen – to check out the new location. Read the full story at: ter.ps/beach

6. Smith to offer three new classes in fall 2015
