Smith School Executive MBA Program
Among Top in U.S.
College Park, Md. – October 19, 2009 – The
Executive MBA program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School
of Business places No. 21 among EMBA programs in the United States in the 2009
Financial Times executive education rankings, published today. In
addition, the Smith School was ranked No. 50 in the world and No. 9 globally for
faculty research, an area of strength for which the school is consistently
recognized as a leader.
“We’re honored to be recognized for the first time in this influential
ranking,” said G. “Anand” Anandalingam. “Since our EMBA program began in 2003,
it has been all about helping executives develop as leaders. Our top faculty
translate their world-leading research into practice in the classroom, which our
students, in turn, apply to real-world projects. The focus is on relevant tools
to help our students develop and emerge as true leaders and innovators at their
organizations.”
“We are the highest ranked program that ‘debuted’ in this year’s rankings and
we are thrilled to be included,” said Hugh Courtney, associate dean of executive
programs. “We will use this as momentum as we work hard every day to continually
improve our program to ensure a better lifelong learning experience for our
students and alumni.”
The Financial Times rankings are compiled from two questionnaires –
one that focuses on business school and program information, the other that
focuses on alumni achievement three years after graduation for the EMBA class of
2006. The research ranking is calculated according to the number of faculty
publications in 40 international academic and practitioner journals. Points are
accrued by the business school at which the author is currently employed and the
total is weighted for faculty size.
