Arbitration
Professor Anenson teaches
business law at the Robert H.
Smith School of Business,
University of Maryland. Her
current research involves
rethinking the role of ancient
equitable defenses in
contemporary court practice in
the United States. Her work
focuses on developing a better
theoretical understanding of the
amorphous doctrines of unclean
hands, laches, and estoppel to
identify deficiencies in their
development and to propose
improvements to enhance their
evolution. She is also
formulating an overarching
theory, based upon a critical
and historical analysis of the
role of equity jurisprudence in
the modern era, to confront the
current confusion in the case
law on the role of these
equitable defenses in modern
business litigation.
The Academy of Legal Studies in
Business (ALSB) recently honored
Professor Anenson with its 2007
Junior Faculty Award of
Excellence. The award is given
every other year to a junior
faculty professor in a tenure
track position not exceeding six
years who has most excelled in
research, teaching, and service.
The ALSB is an international
academy consisting of law
professors teaching at business
schools in the United States,
Canada, United Kingdom, New
Zealand and Australia.
Professor Anenson has more than
a dozen articles published or
accepted for publication from
law reviews at top universities.
Three articles have also been
published in the American
Business Law Journal, which is
the premier peer-reviewed
journal in business law. Her
research has been recognized
numerous times as the best
submitted conference paper,
including twice earning the
Holmes-Cardozo Distinguished
Paper Award. Her published
articles have additionally
received Hoeber Awards for
excellence in research in the
American Business Law Journal
and for the outstanding article
in the Journal of Legal Studies
Education.
Professor Anenson is an editor
of the International Business
Law Review and the American
Business Law Journal. She is the
immediate past President of both
the International Section of the
ALSB and its Pacific Southwest
Region. She is a member of the
American Society of
International Law, the American
Bar Association (Litigation and
International Sections), and is
a Fulbright Senior Specialist
Candidate in the area of
international law.
Before embarking on an academic
career, Professor Anenson spent
several years in the private
practice of law and business.
She has expertise in
international logistics, law,
and litigation. She has
consulted with global
corporations as well as domestic
and foreign governments. She has
also represented multi-national
and other major companies in
court and other dispute
resolution tribunals.
