Aysun is a sixth year student in the PhD program. She received her
B.S. and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering at Bogazici University,
Turkey, where she also held a teaching assistantship while a Master's student.
Even as an undergraduate she was involved in research and has published
with a prestigious engineering journal. For her PhD studies, Aysun has
been awarded an assistantship and a full Dean's Fellowship. She is interested
in corporate finance research, mergers and acquisitions, and credit ratings.
Aysun's teaching experience includes an undergraduate International Finance
course at the Smith School.

Matthew is in his sixth year of doctoral studies. Prior to Maryland,
he attained a Masters of Science in Computational and Quantitative Finance
from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA), where he was also
employed as a teaching assistant for the department of mathematics. He attended
Washington and Lee University (Lexington, VA) for his undergraduate studies,
attaining a Bachelor of Science in business administration and Bachelor
of Arts in mathematics.

Nitin joined the Smith School of Business in 2006 as a PhD student in
Finance. He received his Bachelors from the Indian Institute of Technology
(IIT) - Kanpur, India and MS in Quantitative Economics from Indian Statistical
Institute (ISI) - Calcutta, India. He worked for Infosys and SAP from 2002-2004.
His current research interests are corporate governance and financial econometrics.

Jeongmin joined the Finance PhD Program in 2008. She was awarded a
full graduate assistantship, along with a Dean's Summer Research Fellowship. Jeongmin got her B.S. in Mathematics from POSTECH in 2005 and
MS of Management
Engineering (Concentration in Finance) in 2008 from KAIST Business School,
both in Korea. Her current research interests include Theoretical Market
Microstructure and Asset Pricing.

Minwen joined the finance department as a PhD student in 2004. She
received her Master of Quantitative Economics from Tsinghua University
and her B.S. in Finance with an Outstanding Student Scholarship from
Beijing University in China. Prior to joining the PhD program, Minwen
was a financial manager at State Grid Corporation of China, the largest
Chinese power company ranked 24th among the Fortune Global 500. During
her three years working experience at State Grid, Minwen was responsible
for capital budgeting and financial reporting of $23 billion assets and
involved in many large restructuring and financing projects. She also
ranked first in the national GAAP case competition sponsored by Treasury
Department of China in 2001.

Su is a third year PhD student in the Finance department at the Robert
H. Smith School of Business. Su was awarded a full graduate assistantship,
along with a Dean's Summer Research Fellowship. Prior to joining to the
program, he received a B.S. in physics from the University of Science and
Technology of China in June, 2001 and a PhD in physics from the University
of Maryland at College Park in August, 2007.

Wei Li joined the program in 2008. Prior to Maryland, he obtained
graduate and undergraduate degrees in engineering and statistics from
Purdue, Tsinghua, and Zhejiang University. He is interested in both
theoretical and empirical research on asset pricing and market
microstructure.
Danmo Lin

Prior to joining the Finance program in 2009, Danmo studied Economics at the
Central University of Finance and Economics (China) and Stony Brook University.
She taught undergraduate game theory and worked as the local organizer for the
18th and 19th International Game Theory Festival at Stony Brook University. Her
previous research includes a paper on duopoly markets with network externalities
and a quantitative analysis of dividend tax reform on welfare and investment.
Her current interests focus on capital structure in corporate finance combined
with an IO perspective.

Tanakorn Makaew is a doctoral candidate in finance at the University
of Maryland where he was awarded the Frank Paine Prize for academic
achievement, assistantships, and fellowships. His research interests are
in international/corporate finance and computational economics with a
focus on the dynamic of international mergers and acquisitions. His
paper was named the best doctoral paper in international finance at the
2009 Southwestern Finance Association Meeting and a finalist for the
UCLA's CIBER international finance student award. Tanakorn graduated
from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) with an honor Bachelor's in
computer engineering and a Master's in international economics. He
received another honor Bachelor's in money and banking from Ramkhamheang
University. While studying at Maryland, he held various research
positions at the IMF, the Congressional Budget Office, and the World
Bank Group. He was selected to the University of Chicago's Summer
Institute on Computational Economics and the NBER Entrepreneurship
Research Bootcamp. Tanakorn also taught a class on derivatives and won
the Wikler Award for Teaching Excellence.

Katie Moon joined the Finance PhD Program in 2006. She attended the
Financial Engineering Program, a joint program of the School of Mathematics
and the Peter F. Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University
for her MS degree. Her B.S. in Electrical Engineering and another MS
in Computer Science were from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea.
She has working experience as a computer programmer in a 3D Animation Company.
Her current research interests include Mathematical Finance and Financial
Risk Management.
Benjamin Munyan

Benjamin is a first-year student in the PhD program. He received dual B.S.
degrees in Mathematics and in Economics from Arizona State University. There he
was involved in many undergraduate research programs for the mathematical
sciences - some of which were published or presented at undergraduate research
conferences. His current research interests include market structure and theory,
risk management, and corporate and international finance.

Michael Padhi joined the PhD program in 2003. His research interests
include selection of corporate governance mechanism, microfinance, private
investment in public equity (PIPEs), and security design. He is the recipient
of the Business Dean's Fellowship and is an instructor of banking and financial
institutions. Prior to joining Smith, Padhi worked as a financial economic
analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta where he performed banking
research and antitrust regulation. His research on the effect of credit
scoring of small business loans in low- and moderate- income areas are published
in the Financial Review and were presented at several conferences. He has
also written several articles in Federal Reserve publications on a variety
of banking issues.

Anshuman Sinha is a student of Finance at the Robert H. Smith School
of Business. He has a bachelor's and a master's degree in Mathematics. He
is interested in Financial theory of Agency, Corporate Governance, International
Finance and Mathematical Finance. He is teaching BMGT 446, an upper level
undergraduate course in international finance, in Fall 2006.

Nitish did his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering from Indian
Institute of Technology and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (equivalent
to MBA) from Indian Institute of Technology. He has worked for ITC, Goldman
Sachs, Tata Strategic Management Group and most recently for Centre for
Advanced Financial Studies (CAFS) as a researcher where he researched implied
volatility of index options in Asia and IPO underpricing in India. His research
is focused on information content of news and disclosures made by firms.

Onur Tosun joined the Finance Department in 2008. Prior to University
of Maryland, he received a Master of Business Administration degree from
Bogazici University, Turkey, where he was also employed as teaching assistant
for the Department of Management. He attended Istanbul Technical University,
Turkey for his undergraduate studies, attaining a Bachelor of Science in
Industrial Engineering. During his undergraduate and graduate education,
Onur conducted research in the fields of logistics, marketing, and finance
and participated in various international conferences. He also published
one of his works with the Journal of Global Optimization. Onur
was awarded a full graduate assistantship and a Dean's Summer Research Fellowship
for his PhD studies at Robert H. Smith School of Business, University
of Maryland. His current research interests include financial risk management
and investment management.

Tugkan is a Ph.D. candidate in Finance. He received his
MA in Economics from the University of Virginia and B.A in Economics from Bogazici University with High Honors. Before joining the
PhD program at
UMD, he worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Virginia. Tugkan
was awarded a full graduate assistantship, along with a Dean's Summer Research
Fellowship, for his PhD studies. He is interested in Institutional Trading,
Market Microstructure, and Mutual Funds.

Yue Xiao is a PhD student in the Finance Program at the Robert H. Smith
School of Business. She specializes in Mathematical Finance. Yue received
a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computation from the University
of Maryland in December 2005. Her research interests include mathematical
finance, asset pricing, and simulation modeling.
