HireSmith, TERP Online (TOL) & Other Job-Search systems

What is HireSmith?

HireSmith is the online job-search website/database customized for students of the Smith School of Business. It facilitates the recruiting, on-campus interviewing, and resume collections of business students/alums. It can be compared to the famous Monster and HotJobs job-search websites and tailored to Smith, with employers and events specifically geared toward the Smith community.

What is TerpOnline (TOL)? Can graduate students use it?

As the primary online job-search website/database for non-Smith students, TOL is the main Campus Career Center's equivalent of HireSmith. Smith students can also get a TOL account, if they choose. However, all business-focused career opportunities will reside in HireSmith.

What is JobTrak?

Unlike HireSmith & TOL, Jobtrak is a free website controlled by Monster, as an avenue for channeling college students toward interested employers. However, the University of Maryland's Jobtrak account is set up for the whole university, not just the Smith School.

Steps to gain entry to Jobtrak:

  • Access the web site (http://www.jobtrak.com).

  • Click on “Search Jobs & Internships."

  • Choose "Univ. of Maryland, College Park" under “College and University Career Center.”

  • Our password is “adele”.

Resume Books

What's the deal with these Resume Books?

  • Resume Books can be thought of as virtual bulletin boards to which you can publish your resume(s). When you publish a resume to a resume book, you submit it to a centralized database from which employers can search for students based on limited criteria.

  • Publishing your resume to a resume book is useful for “getting your resume out there” to a place where employers can search for you. Normally, you must apply to a particular job for your resume to be seen by a prospective employer. However, by publishing to the resume book, employers can perform searches for “published” documents based on keywords. For example, if the skills on your resume includes “Database Analyst,” the employer can perform this keyword search, and your published resume will be included in those results.

Which & how many resumes can I publish into the Resume Books?

  • For the generic resume books (i.e., 'Graduate Internship' or 'Experience' [a global resume book]), publish your resume that has either the broadest appeal, OR if your industry & focus is targeted, then use the resume most applicable to this target.

  • For the specific resume books (i.e., by concentration), use a related resume.

  • You can publish a different resume for EACH of the resume books of which you are eligible -- but you can only publish ONE resume per book.
