Career & Communications Coaching
Career coaching can support you in all
areas of the job search including: understanding
where your skills fit; marketing & positioning
yourself; jumping industries or types of
jobs; developing job market understanding;
making and following an action plan; and

tactical help with resumes, cover letters,
elevator speeches, summary of qualifications,

LaVern
Chapman, Director & Career Consultant
LaVern Chapman is highly experienced in
the creation, execution and management
of career programs and employer
development initiatives within
multicultural environments in private
industry, government, and higher
education. At Smith, LaVern champions
full-time MBA career programming efforts
by designing and implementing various
career programming initiatives, building
strategic partnerships with key internal
and external stakeholders, including
alumni, employers, and career delivery
partners. As the Office of Career
Management liaison to the MBAA,
functional student clubs, and employers,
LaVern designs and communicates OCM
policies and tracks and reports
full-time MBA job placement statistics
in accordance with MBA CSC guidelines.
Sandi
Stewart,
Career Consultant
Sandi Stewart’s management career
has spanned a number of industries. Sandi
has experience as a VP of Marketing & Consultant,
Associate Product Manager and Marketing
Manager at companies to include Johnson
& Johnson, Hearst/ABC, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich,
and Ferrero, N.A. This work experience and
MBA from Columbia University has given her
a breadth of understanding of diverse opportunities.
As an Executive Coach with over 15 years
of organizational consulting and coaching
experience, Sandi has assisted executives,
managers, entrepreneurs and career changers
in catalyzing their work and career development.
Kecia Hansard,
Career Consultant
Kecia Hansard is an experienced
higher education professional with a sincere
desire to assist MBA students attain their
career goals. Kecia has over 14 years of
experience in marketing, recruitment, and
student advising within universities and
associations. She possesses a wealth of
culturally diverse experiences assisting
students in the US and abroad, acting as
a career resource to Smith student associations,
and is skilled in career planning and strategy.
A proud TERP, Kecia received her B.S. in
Journalism from the University of Maryland,
College Park and M.A. in Counseling from
The George Washington University with concentrations
in multicultural and career counseling.
Kecia is currently a doctoral candidate
at GWU in Human Resource Development, with
research areas in organizational effectiveness,
work and identity, and leadership coaching.
Moneca
Surida, Program Manager
Having worked most recently as a project
manager at the National Institutes of
Health (NIH), Moneca Surida brings a
strong project and logistics management
background to both large and small scale
clients with varying training needs. As
Smith’s MBA career programs manager,
Moneca manages the design and
implementation of a variety of career
programming initiatives. Working with
MBA students and clubs, she assists with
creation of career programming
initiatives and serves as an OCM
representative at various student,
employer and campus events. Moneca seeks
to build strategic partnerships with MBA
Admissions and other key internal
stakeholders.

Career Resource Center
Use the Career Resource Center for everything you need on company research,
personal marketing and professional development.
Guidebooks, references, directories and
texts are available, as well as computer
access to online information.
Location: Room 4568 VMH (next
door to the Office of Career Management)
Hours: Spring & Fall semesters:
9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Other times: Please contact
the OCM at 301-405-2301 for an appointment.
The Center will be closed occasionally
for OCM meetings, corporate guests, and
campus closures.

Telephone
Interviews
Students can reserve an OCM interview
room for career-related telephone calls
on a first come first served basis. Availability
of interview rooms on certain days may be
limited due to a high number of employers
conducting on-campus interviews. Please
plan early and verify availability before
finalizing your phone appointment.

Appointments must be made at least 24 hours
in advance. As a courtesy to others using

Smith OCM MBA Virtual Meeting Room
The Smith OCM MBA Virtual Meeting room
provides a chat room, discussion boards,
a contact member list, and other resources
to inform and prepare Smith MBAs for future
career opportunities.

Network
The TERP Alumni Network is a new and
convenient way to stay in touch with fellow
alumni and your alma mater. This FREE online
community features an Alumni Directory to
help you locate old friends and establish
a permanent Terp e-mail so that your friends
can also find you. There is even a place
to update your alumni profile.
Access is exclusive to University of

to make smarter career decisions. WetFeet

Additionally, WetFeet publishes the highly-regarded
