HireSmith (www.hiresmith.net)
is the online job-search
website/database customized for students
of the Smith School of Business. It
facilitates the recruitment of Smith
students and alumni. It can be compared
to the famous Monster and HotJobs
websites, with employers and events
specifically geared toward the Smith
community.

The Robert H. Smith

success center. We have
partnered with
CareerBeam, LLC to bring
you the best company and
industry research tools,
international databases
and lead generation
technology available in
the market. The success
center also has a career
development seminar
series that has
assessments,
professional resume and
cover letter builders
and search strategy
resources for you. Just
a few highlights and
features now available
to you include:
- Job Trigger technology that
continually scans more than 20,000
business sources for over 150
categories of “job trigger events”
which indicate an actual job posting
or opportunity. We produce over
25,000 of these new job triggers
every day. Triggers that match your
criteria are emailed to you as job
leads.
- Search Companies area that
includes over 17M organizations
containing company overview, key
information and business
intelligence. You’ll have access to
20M industry contacts, many with
biographies and contact information,
which is great for connecting with
alumni.
- Company Intelligence, including
all Dun & Bradstreet information for
you to create specific Industry,
Company, and Geography searches to
create target company lists. There
is also a “research on demand”
feature that allows you to request
research on companies not currently
in the database.

Research Guides
Vault
The Office of Career Management provides
Smith students access to Vault, an online
career research guide. Vault provides insider
company information, advice, and career
management services. Specific content includes:

Updated "insider"
information on over 3,000 companies
and 70 industries.

Over 60 career guides
and employer profiles, including well-known
titles such as the Vault Guide to the
Top 100 Law Firms, Vault Guide to Finance
Interviews, and Vault Guide to the Top
50 Consulting Firms. Guides cover a
range of industries, including accounting,
advertising, fashion, media, investment
management, and venture capital.

Hoovers
Hoover's, Inc. delivers comprehensive
company, industry, and market intelligence
that drives business growth. The Hoovers
database includes 12 million companies,
with in-depth coverage of 30,000 of the
world's top business enterprises. Hoover's
editorial staff of some 80 editors and researchers
bring vital business information and knowledge,
updating the site daily to bring visitors
and subscribers the most up-to-date business
information in the industry.
To access Hoover's from off-campus (If
you are on-campus, click on the link in
#2):
1. Go to VBIC (http://vbic.umd.edu)
and select "Off Campus Access" on the
left menu for instructions.
2. Once in, click
on "VBIC Databases" on the left menu,
go to the letter 'H' for 'Hoovers and
you will be able to access the database

H1Base provides information on
companies that may sponsor international
students. Enter your Email and Password in the "Current
User Login" box at the top of the page and
click the "Login" button. Click on
the "VIEW" button next to the "All Directories
- Unlimited users" service heading.

HireSmith and click on the
"password-protected online research
guides" link to access username and
password information.
VBIC
The Virtual Business Information Center
(VBIC) is a compilation of electronic and
print business resources intended to provide
research assistance to the Smith community.
VBIC is a very useful tool when conducting
company and industry research in preparation
