For the 13th year, proceeds of the 2005
Entrepreneur Invitational will benefit the
Lamone Scholarship Fund at the Dingman
Center for Entrepreneurship, located in the
Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Recognizing the popularity of golf and the benefits
of doing business on the golf course, this exclusive
event will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at
the beautiful P.B. Dye Golf Club in Ijamsville,
Maryland, with close proximity to the Greater
Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area. As the name

out quickly. There is limited playing space as

DINGMAN CENTER IN THE NEWS
The
Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship has been
featured prominently in recent business
publications, and we are delighted to share some of
these articles with you in our newsletter.
The Daily Record, Maryland's Business
and Legal Newspaper, interviewed Asher Epstein and
printed an extensive article in a Q&A format in the
May 20, 2005 issue. Reprints are available
from our office, and the pdf of the article is
available at this link:
Small business maker:
Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at University of
Maryland cultivates students and the region.
The Business Monthly, for May
2005 had an extensive article about being an
entrepreneur and the Dingman Center. They cite
several well-known and up-and-coming entrepreneurs.
Please note that the author of the article
incorrectly stated that Kevin Plank, a Maryland
graduate and founder of Under Armour, had made use
of the Dingman Center's services. A pdf of the
article is available at this link:
Who Wants to Be an Entrepreneur and the Dingman
Center for Entrepreneurship.
The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer recently
interviewed a group from the University of Maryland,
which included Asher Epstein and former Dingman
Center Scholar Maya Rao about their high-tech news
gathering techniques. The 2 minute clip is
part of a longer piece (6 minutes) on the new trends
of the younger demographic market using cell phones,
Blackberrys, laptops and other high-tech gadgets to
quickly gather the world's important news. The

UPDATE ON STUDENT-RUN BUSINESSES
Matt Fleischer, CEO of Hook
and Ladder Brewing Company, has received his
licenses to sell his award-winning beer!
A very successful launch party was held on May 19 at R.J.Bentley's in College Park.
Between 75 and 80 people attended, and Matt and his
brother, Richard, were delighted with the turnout
to celebrate a great new beer on the market.
Bentley's was decorated with firefighter
hats and other firefighting gear to add to
the theme of the launch party.
Matt says "we will be serving at the 9th
Annual Old Dominion Beer Festival on June
24th, 25th, and 26th in Ashburn, Virginia.
Come out and drink your new favorite brew."
More information and details about this
upcoming beer festival can be found on their
website:
http://www.olddominion.com/pg/BeerFest .
Matt adds "we are on tap now and available
in Maryland at many local bars and
restaurants, so please ask you server for a
Hook & Ladder. If they don't have it, tell
them they need to get it!" You can
read about Hook and Ladder at their website:
http://www.hookandladderbeer.com .
Zoey Rawlins, CEO of Rawlins
Media and Publisher of Shop DC Magazine, is
continuing to distribute copies of the
inaugural issue of the shopping guide

while "SHE" does some serious shopping!

OUR
END OF THE YEAR PRESENTATION TO OUR
BOARD OF ADVISORS
AND FAREWELL TO OUR DINGMAN CENTER
SCHOLARS On
Tuesday, May 10 our Board of Advisors gathered to hear
an overview of our first year in the reorganized Dingman
Center for Entrepreneurship. One of the highlights
was the unveiling of a marketing piece, known as
The
Entrepreneurship Map, which is a graphical image
featuring the Smith School of Business, and the Dingman
Center for Entrepreneurship, as being at the center of
entrepreneurship in the State of Maryland. The
map shows the names, logos and websites of the many
other entrepreneurial groups, incubators, and
programs with which the Dingman Center is closely
involved.
Our nine Dingman Center Scholars, eight of whom have
just graduated from the full-time MBA program, were
present and some talked briefly about the work they have
done this year. All of our new Dingman Scholars
who had been hired for next year (as of May 10),
were present. Please click on the thumbnail photos
below to see an enlarged picture of this special
end-of-the-year event.
The event culminated with a presentation of a small
gift to our departing Dingman Scholars followed by a
reception.

OUR
UPCOMING NEWSLETTERS
Current plans are to distribute a
mid-summer newsletter to our readers.
This edition will contain a tentative
calendar of events for 2005 - 2006 so
you can mark your calendar for the
events you wish to attend. It will
contain a new feature -- an article
written by one of our doctoral students
in the Management & Organization
Department, whose emphasis is in the
Entrepreneurship field. Finally,
we hope to have a "what they're doing
now" for our 2004 - 2005 Dingman Center
Scholars. As you can imagine, many
of them are taking a well-deserved
vacation, but plan to start their
post-graduate school careers within a
few months.
At the end of August, we will have a
kick-off newsletter for our new academic
year, which will include photos and a
short bio of our 2005 - 2006 Dingman
Center Scholars, a finalized calendar of
events, and detailed information about
our Open House and other events in
September.

THE DINGMAN
CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Founded by Rudy Lamone in 1986, the Dingman Center was one of
the first of its kind in the country and has emerged as a
top-ranked entrepreneurship center. Thanks to initial funding

Signal Corporation (now part of Honeywell International), the
Dingman Center continues to grow as a regional and national
catalyst in the field of entrepreneurship. The Center is now
aggressively evolving, and in some areas, is expanding its
services to further its role as a leader in the student,
regional, and academic entrepreneurial communities.
The Dingman Center is currently led by:
Asher Epstein, Managing Director
Dr. Charles Heller, Chairman of the Board and Director Emeritus
Dr. Scott Koerwer, Associate Dean, Executive Education,
